To receive the certificate of financial studies from the National Academy Foundation (www.naf.org), students must have completed a COMPENSATED internship (typically in the Junior-Senior summer) that exposes a student to financial aspects of a business, government agency or non-profit organization. (See part 3 below)
The internship program at Lancaster High School is divided into three parts. To be eligible for a compensated internship, students must first complete an unpaid training experience. (aka "Job Shadow") Students are eligible to earn 1/2 credit for the training experience (parts 1,2) and another 1/2 credit for completing the compensated experience (part 3).
Students express their career interests during the first 10 weeks of their junior year. Every attempt is made to place a student into the career exploration of his/her choice provided the employer is willing to design a training program that also exposes the student to the business/finance portion of the business.
