Sight Words
    • Please study your child's sight word ring each evening.  Each child has a sight word ring in their reading bag.  This ring includes most sight words taught to date.  For additional sight words, please see the attached Dolch Sight Word List

    •   Take Home Book and Reading Log:       As part of the LLI program, each night, your child will bring home a “Take-Home Book” in their canvas reading bag.  This book is a copy of a book we have read in school.  Your child can read the book to you, an older brother or sister, grandparent, etc.  If everyone is busy, you can even have your child read to their stuffed animal.  The idea is to have them read every night to give them time to practice what they have learned about reading.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Also  included in the reading bag will be a parent log.  This log serves as daily communication between you and I.  Your signature indicates that your child had read the night before.  There is also a rating section on the log, where you let me know if the book was easy (E), appropriate (A), or hard (H) for your child.   Consider not only their ability to read the words on each page but also whether they understand the message behind what they are reading, before you rate your child’s reading.  This can be done by having your child retell you what they read about and by asking them a few questions about the book.
