• AIS Overview

     

    The following strategies will be introduced in the beginning of the year.

     Visualization – create a picture/movie in your mind as text is read

     Making Connections –between the text read and yourself, another text, or the world

     Questioning- as text is read develop questions that begin with “I Wonder…”

     Predicting – use clues from the passage to “guess” what may happen (reasonable guess)

     

    The skills listed below will be stressed later in the year.  Individual units of study will concentrate on these skills.  Both fiction and nonfiction will be read when using these skills.

     Main Idea – the most important idea in the text

    Inferencing - using what a student knows (background knowledge) plus clues in the text.    This skill is essential for answering multiple choice questions.

    Theme - the lesson or message of the text
