• Students are selected to receive reading services based on multiple measures:

The NYS ELA Exam cut points:  Students who score below the median scale score between Level 2 and Level 3 are identified as eligible for AIS.

    • If your child is in 4th Grade and received BELOW a scale score of 305 on their ELA assessment, they will be considered for AIS.
    • If your child is in 5th Grade and received BELOW a scale score of 303 on their ELA assessment, they will be considered for AIS
    • If your child is in 6th Grade and received BELOW a scale score of 304 on their ELA assessment, they will be considered for AIS.
In addition to the NYS Assessment, multiple additional measures will be considered to determine which students receive services, including the following:
    • Developmental Reading Assessments (i.e., Fastbridge Assessments)
    • Local benchmark assessments
    • Classroom performance
    • Teacher recommendations

If your child does not initially qualify, the teacher can recommend AIS services. They would meet with the RtI (Response to Intervention) Team to discuss areas of concern for the student.

    The RtI Team would review:

    • Classroom performance (grades, classwork, etc.)
    • Test scores, both formal and informal assessments
    • Current interventions

The RtI Team would then determine if AIS services would be implemented.

You would then receive a letter in the mail explaining the program, how often the student will receive additional services, and who the AIS provider would be.
