•  An Interview with Mrs. Dickson   carrie

How long have you been teaching?
This will be my 22nd year of teaching! I started out as a Kindergarten teacher and enjoyed that tremendously for 5 years. I have been teaching 5th grade at William Street School since then and just love it!

What do you love most about teaching fifth graders?
Fifth graders are so anxious to learn new things and are always eager to accept my many reward challenges! It is the motivation and excitement that I see each day from my students that makes me love working with them!

Do you have any hobbies or talents?
I have been playing the flute and singing for as long as I can remember, and often am hired to perform for wedding ceremonies!  Music has always been, and will always be an important part of my life.  I also come from a family of artists, and though I do not hold a candle to the talents of my mother and sister, I still bring those art skills into my classroom on a regular basis!  Other hobbies include... reading, ice skating, shopping, and most importantly... spending time with my family & friends!

    Tell me about your family.
My husband, Mr. Dickson, works at Lancaster High School in the Phys. Ed. department. He also coaches Varsity Football, Lacrosse and our son's baseball team.  He is a wonderful teacher, friend, husband and father. We have two children! Our son, Cameron, is 13 years old and is so full of personality and spunk. He loves all sports, just like his Dad, and plays baseball, basketball, football and lacrosse. Our daughter, Cathryn, is 9 years old and loves gymnastics, dance, music and art. We love spending time together, whether it's swimming, going on a trip, or just eating dinner together as a family!

What was your favorite subject in school?
Good question!  My favorite subject in school was Math... because it was both challenging and rewarding.  I liked that there was always a solution and felt a sense of relief when I figured something out! My favorite subject to teach, however, is Science. It's interesting and full of hands on activities!

What is the funniest thing a student has ever said to you?
There have been many, many funny things over the years, but this one stands out...
It was the first day of Kindergarten and I asked a very adorable little boy, named Patrick, what he would like me to call him.  (Thinking he might say "Pat" of course.)  He looked up at me with his big, brown eyes and said, "You can call me Sweetie Pie, my Mommy calls me Sweetie Pie."  I knew I had picked the right profession because my heart just melted!
