Mr. Newell’s Philosophy of Music Education
Mr. Newell believes that music education is extremely important in the lives of children. Music education develops in all children the skills, understandings, and attitudes that enable them to perceive and respond as fully as possible to the aesthetic qualities of music, while gaining an understanding of what music actually is. Research has proven that every child is born with a given amount of musical aptitude. It is every child’s human right to be given the proper music instruction so that such aptitude is developed to it’s fullest potential. In doing so, we as music educators are creating the “whole child”.
“Music Education is one of the few things in human existence, which can evoke universal responses. Music knows no race, creed, or color. It comes from both heart and mind. Every human culture, whether primitive or sophisticated has had music. Music can be said to be the Universal Language of mankind.”
