Dear Hillview Parents/Guardians,
If you have a student returning to Hillview Elementary School, welcome back. If your child is just beginning his or her educational experience at Hillview Elementary School, welcome to our wonderful school. We are a strong, caring and united learning community. I am thrilled to embark on a new journey in 2017-2018 with all students, staff members and families.
The first full day back to school, Tuesday, September 5th, will be here soon. We have been busy preparing the building for a new school year. If you drove by Hillview at all this summer, then you would have seen the capital project construction occurring throughout the school. We are excited to see the new features in our classrooms, hallways and cafeteria. In addition, we will have a brand new library media center, art room and nurse’s office. Our supportive Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) also purchased a second playground geared for kindergartners and first grade students, along with a new electronic school sign on Transit Road.
Teachers assisted with grouping students for balanced classes. The detailed thought that is devoted to class placement is critical. It is time well spent, as we are building a family of learners in each classroom. Your child’s teacher’s name and school supply list are included in this packet of information. School supply lists for each grade level can also be found on the school website.
I would like to acknowledge the Hillview faculty changes for 2017-2018: Mrs. Culliton and Ms. Lettieri will be joining the Hillview family as kindergarten teachers. Ms. Stasiak is new to our first grade team, and Mr. Brawn is joining us as a special education teacher. Ms. Janis, physical education teacher, will travel to us from LHS, and Ms. Metcalfe and Ms. Farrell will be coming to Hillview from William Street School to teach music education. Dr. Feldman-Alguire, school psychologist, will also be at Hillview three days a week.
“Supply Drop Off” is optional, but it is helpful and allows students to bring supplies to school in advance, making the first day easier for them. Since the construction will continue through Labor Day and the hallways will not be safe for visitors, supply drop off will take place on August 31st (a staff development day) from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in one designated location (TBD). Signs will be posted on the outside doors to direct families to the supply drop off tables. Tables will include the classroom teacher’s name. Please add your child’s name to the supplies, and place them in a labeled plastic bag on the designated table. The plastic bag should include your child’s name, grade level and teacher’s name. Thank you for your assistance.
There will be an opportunity to talk with your child’s teacher, tour the school and learn more about the curriculum and expectations at our Open House on Thursday, September 21st. Please also consider joining the Hillview PTO. The PTO organizes and funds many enjoyable activities and events for our students throughout the school year. We are especially fortunate to have their continued support. Lastly, bus information will be mailed to families in late August from the transportation department.
I look forward to another outstanding year of excellent academic achievement, strong character building and special student-centered events. In addition, I look forward to working with all of you so that our Hillview Elementary School students continue to be as successful as possible every day.
Mrs. Amy B. Moeller
