Ms. Zipp

I am excited about starting a new school year and getting to know you. Here are a few tidbits about me...

My name is Megan Zipp, and this is my third year at William Street School as the Math Specialist. This will be my 14th year teaching, I previously taught in West Seneca and Buffalo. I love my job and believe strongly in the power of education and intervention. My goal is to help your students reach their fullest potential.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. One of my favorite activities is camping. My husband and two sons love to go camping, hiking, boating and exploring new places.

  • Welcome to Academic Intervention Services (AIS) for mathematics. The AIS program is designed to help students achieve the NYS Learning Standards. This is accomplished through additional instruction that supports the general curriculum or by addressing barriers to improved academic performance.

     Objectives:

    • To remediate as needed.
    • To reinforce basic concepts/skills daily.
    • To increase student ability and confidence in mathematics.
    • To develop or enhance a system of organization and self-discipline.

    Expectations:

    • Give your best effort.
    • Be prepared to work.
    • Always have a pencil with you.
    • Be courteous and respectful at all times.
    • No putdowns!
    • Stay on task throughout the class.

     Behavior in the Classroom:

    • Students are to come on time and prepared to class.
    • Students are to show respect for the teacher and fellow students at all times.

For more information please visit the district website on Academic Intervention Services (https://www.lancasterschools.org/domain/1062).

  • Students are selected to receive Math services based on:

First, all students performing AT or BELOW a median score between Level 2 (Partially Proficient) and Level 3 (Proficient) on the NYS Assessment are identified for consideration/eligibility for AIS. All students performing at or below this median cut score will be considered/eligible for AIS. The cut score is established by NYSED.

Second, if your child is ABOVE these cut points, the teacher can recommend AIS services. They would meet with the RtI (Response to Intervention) Team to discuss areas of concern for the student.

    The RtI Team would review:

    • Classroom performance (grades, classwork, etc.)
    • Test scores, both formal and informal assessments
    • Current interventions

The RtI Team would then determine if AIS services would be implemented.

You would then receive a letter in the mail explaining the program, how often the student will receive additional services, and who the AIS provider would be.

  • This year, Parent/Teacher Conferences are:

    Thursday, November 29th
    and
    Friday, November 30th.

I will be available in my room (B205) or in your child's classroom during these days if you would like to stop in to discuss your child's progress.
You may also call or email me to set up a time to meet or have a phone conference at your convenience.
