• English 10 Honors Course Description

     
    This course is designed to prepare students for college entrance and success on the New York State Comprehensive ELA exam. Several literary classics will be read and studied. Vocabularies will be expanded through independent writing assignments based on selected texts and regular vocabulary lessons. Critical thinking and communication skills will be required for essay analysis and response based on a variety of texts an genres including non-fiction, fiction, prose, and poetry. Close Reading Structures will be studied and utilized through writing assignments based on selections that include a variety of short stories, essays, articles, and speeches.  A major research project will be assigned which will study claim development and analysis as well as utilize evidence-based writing to support claims. Basic grammar principles will be reviewed.
