The Carnival Kids Steel Orchestra or “CKSO” is one of Lancaster’s most unique musical organizations. Founded in 1974 by former Lancaster teacher John Marone, our Caribbean Steel Band is one of the five oldest steel band programs in the United States. The group has performed in Trinidad, Hawaii, and the Bahamas, on a cruise ship, at the Grand Ole Opry, for the Sabres, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and with several University Steel Bands. CKSO is the featured guest artist at many local summer series music programs, and one of the busiest student performance groups. The CKSO earned a Grand Champion Award at Universal, was “Most Entertaining High School Group” in 2011, and has 6 CDs to its credit. Students are selected following an audition at the Middle School.
