VIDEO: 2023 Legendary Day of Learning Prepares Lancaster Staff for School Year

Educational staff at the Lancaster Central School District were able to reconnect with colleagues and prepare themselves for the upcoming school year as they took part in the Legendary Day of Learning.

The district’s annual event, first held in 2019, included a wide range of professional development sessions to go along with wellness activities at Lancaster High School, including a lacrosse tutorial on the district’s new multi-purpose turf field. Staff were able to hear from students on issues like inclusivity and public speaking, and learn from community organizations like the Lancaster Youth Bureau, Kids Escaping Drugs and the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

“We have the best teachers around, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other and share our experience and expertise,” said Andrew Kufel, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Pupil Personnel Services. The event also creates a sense of community amongst the district’s large teaching staff.

“You might connect with someone you hadn’t met before, and it could create a friendship that ultimately benefits our students,” Kufel said.

The development day takes place as the district prepares for the first day of classes with students on Tuesday, September 5.
