Lancaster High School senior Isaiah Schmid was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a Commended Student, celebrating his performance on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The corporation said that Isaiah, as a Commended Student, was among the top 50,000 students who took the test, which is taken by 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools nationwide.
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “These students represent a valuable natural resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
