What devices are covered?
The policy applies to smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other personal devices capable of connecting to the internet. It does not apply to non-internet-enabled communication devices or district/BOCES-provided devices being used for educational purposes.
When and where does the prohibition apply?
Students are generally prohibited from using these devices anywhere on school grounds for the entire school day. That includes class time as well as homeroom, lunch, recess, study halls, and passing time.

Findings and Interpretation
The successful implementation of the District’s distraction-free schools policy was supported by clear communication and consistent implementation from the outset. During the 2025–2026 school year, the District documented 446 infractions across all schools. The internet enabled device policy was administered equitably and fairly with clear and consistent responses and interventions. Progressive disciplinary action was used in cases of repeated infractions. The District identified no significant enforcement disparities and will continue to monitor implementation, review non-identifiable demographic data and examine enforcement practices to ensure that the policy remains consistent, equitable and effective.
