In most cases, cell phones and social media have become a major distraction to the educational learning environment and the overall class community.  They are generally not permitted during instruction or class discussion, except for explicit educational use, independent work time, and emergencies.  In order to protect the privacy rights of both minors (students) and faculty, and also to protect them from the misuse/abuse of recorded images, NO PHOTOS OR VIDEO RECORDINGS may be taken in or around the classroom without explicit permission. This includes Snapchat (including “selfies”), Instagram, etc... Violations of this policy will likely result in a referral and the device being turned into the office.
