Community Invited to Festival of the Arts at Lancaster High School

A group of 17 students in the cast of “The Murderous Mrs. Maisey” pose for a photo.

Members of the community are invited to see the artistic works of students in the Lancaster Central School District during the upcoming Festival of the Arts. The event, scheduled for 3-7 p.m. on May 19 at Lancaster High School, will include music and theatrical performances along with children's art activities and displays of student artwork. The evening will conclude with a performance of the family-friendly mystery production “The Murderous Mrs. Maisey” that will begin at 7 p.m.

“This is a nice way for all of us to work together, and for us to celebrate the arts together,” said Shannon Zolnowski, music teacher and co-director of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. “We have a lot of great things going on, and this is an opportunity to show that to the community.”

The event, which has been taking place for more than two decades, is sponsored by the academy, and supported by students and music and art teachers across all grade levels. In addition to the many free activities during the day, a theme basket auction and silent auction will also be held, and attendees can pre-order Chiavetta’s Chicken Dinners for the day of the event. Money raised during the event will support scholarships for academy seniors.

Dinners may be reserved by May 12 by emailing szolnowski@lancasterschools.org or bmiller@lancasterschools.org or by calling 716-686-3255 ext. 9349.
