February 27, 2022: Mask Mandate in NYS Schools Ending March 2, 2022

Dear Lancaster Families,

This afternoon, Governor Hochul lifted the mandated mask requirement in schools across New York State based on the continued downward trend of several COVID-19 metrics. This change will go into effect on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

Based on the revised guidance, students, staff, and visitors are still required to be masked on Monday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 1, 2022. On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, masks will be optional for all students, staff, and visitors. As we have since the beginning of the pandemic, we will continue to follow the latest guidance and adjust as state and federal requirements change.

Additionally, effective Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the CDC no longer requires wearing masks on buses operated by public schools systems. As such, on that date, masks will be optional for students and adults that utilize our school buses.

As always, I thank you for your support and partnership in continuing to keep our community safe. I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing break and we look forward to seeing your children tomorrow!

Sincerely,
Michael J. Vallely, Ph.D.
Superintendent
